Strengthen Your Home. Protect Your Investment.

The My Safe Florida Home (MSFH) Program is a State of Florida initiative that helps eligible homeowners strengthen their homes against hurricanes through approved wind mitigation improvements.

Eligible homeowners may qualify for up to $10,000 in grant reimbursement for approved hurricane protection upgrades, including impact windows, hurricane shutters, impact doors, roofing improvements, and other qualifying wind mitigation projects.

Funding is subject to legislative appropriations, program eligibility, and availability.

The Florida Legislature has allocated $280 million for the 2025–2026 fiscal year to fund new Wind Mitigation Inspections and Grants.

Because funding is limited, homeowners are encouraged to apply as early as possible.

Applications are processed according to the priority groups established by the Florida Legislature.

Priority Groups:

Group 1

  • Low-income homeowners age 60 and older

Group 2

  • Low-income homeowners of any age

Group 3

  • Moderate-income homeowners age 60 and older

Group 4

  • Moderate-income homeowners of any age

Higher-income households may become eligible for inspections if funding remains after all priority groups have been served. Grant availability for higher-income households depends on current program funding.

To qualify for the My Safe Florida Home Program, your property generally must:

  • Be a site-built, owner-occupied single-family residence.

  • Have a Florida Homestead Exemption.

  • Have a building permit for original construction issued before January 1, 2008.

  • Have an insured value of $700,000 or less (low-income applicants may be exempt).

  • Complete the required Wind Mitigation Inspection before applying for a grant.

Many homeowners also ask about the Homestead value requirement. Under the current program, your property generally must have a Homestead Exemption with an assessed value of at least $25,000 to qualify.

The My Safe Florida Home Program follows a two-step application process.

Step 1 — Apply for the FREE Wind Mitigation Inspection

Create an account through the My Safe Florida Home Program portal and request your free Wind Mitigation Inspection.

A certified inspector will evaluate your home and identify which improvements would strengthen it against hurricane damage.

The inspection may recommend upgrades such as:

  • Hurricane impact windows

  • Hurricane shutters

  • Impact-rated exterior doors

  • Garage door reinforcement

  • Roof-to-wall connection improvements

  • Roof deck attachment improvements

  • Secondary water resistance

The inspection report serves as your roadmap for eligible improvements.

Step 2 — Apply for the Grant

Once your inspection report is available, return to your MSFH portal and complete your grant application.

You will also complete the required prioritization questionnaire and upload supporting documentation requested by the Program.

The Program will review your application and determine whether you qualify for grant funding.

The standard MSFH Grant reimburses homeowners $2 for every $1 they contribute (2/3 of the total cost), up to a maximum State reimbursement of $10,000.

For example:

Total Project Cost
Homeowner Pays
State Reimburses
9000
3000
6000
12000
4000
8000
15000
5000
10000
20000
10000
10000

Qualified low-income homeowners may be eligible for additional grant benefits under current Program rules.

Typical Project Timeline

Project completion times vary depending on the type of improvements selected, permitting requirements, manufacturing lead times, weather conditions, and scheduling.

Under normal circumstances, our typical completion timelines are

  • Manual hurricane shutters: Less than 4 months.

  • Impact Windows and Impact Doors: Less than 6 months.

These estimates begin after the My Safe Florida Home Program authorizes the project to proceed.

1. Free Wind Mitigation Inspection

The State schedules your inspection.

A certified inspector evaluates your home and determines which improvements qualify.

2. Grant Application

After receiving your inspection report, submit your grant application through your portal.

3. Contractor Estimate

Select your contractor and submit the project estimate.

The estimate is used by the Program to determine your eligible reimbursement amount.

Must contain the licence number of the contractor and the contractor's business name.

When working with Hurricane Protection Solutions & Blinds, LLC, we prepare a detailed proposal including:

  • Scope of work

  • Products being installed

  • Total project cost

  • Contractor information

  • Required documentation for the MSFH Program

4. Program Approval

After reviewing your documents, the Program will notify you when your project has been approved to proceed.

Construction should not begin until authorization has been received.

5. Installation

After approval, Hurricane Protection Solutions coordinates every aspect of the project, including:

  • Planning

  • Final measurements

  • Material ordering

  • Logistics

  • Scheduling

  • Professional installation

  • Final documentation (Must submit to the program along with the final inspection)

6. Final Inspection

Once construction is complete, request your Final Inspection through the MSFH Program.

This inspection confirms that the approved improvements were installed according to Program requirements.

7. Grant Reimbursement

After the Final Inspection has been completed, submit:

  • Paid contractor invoice

  • Final inspection documentation

  • Insurance response (if requested)

  • Any remaining required documents

Once approved, the State issues the grant reimbursement directly to the homeowner.
